My younger son has seen Heidi Jo as his primary therapist for about two years now. We had tried "traditional" speech, ot, and pt for 5 years with no tangible results. Before MNRI, he was considered largely non-verbal, quadriplegic, very tight tone-wise. He would not open his right hand. He screamed through therapies constantly. His doctors now are constantly amazed at his growth. He is speaking in 5-8 word sentences. He says large words like "dehumidifier!" There is no more screaming throughout therapy. His right hand is unclenched all the time- he is even using it to pick items up and give them to people! He goes down staircases! He just has not stopped learning. Heidi Jo is offering him tools through this therapy that is helping him to discover his body in ways that his damaged brain couldn't grasp before. I consider her to be a gift from God to our family. We needed this hope. We needed someone to come along our headstrong boy and help guide him. We are blessed that God called Heidi Jo to this. I highly recommend her services to anyone with brain injuries of any kind. I also go beyond that in recommending her. We requested her services in helping my seven year old son who suddenly developed seperation anxiety. He had some strong sensory tendencies that seemed to be on the autism spectrum. He was wetting his pants around six times a day, flapping his arms, running everywhere. After ONE session with Heidi Jo, the seperation anxiety stopped. After a few more, he stopped wetting his pants. She has been an amazing blessing to our whole family. I encourage you to try out this different method. I find that it is easy for my children and comfortable. With other therapies there was tears, fighting, screaming, pain. It is not so with the MNRI method. I thank God she's here AND insurance covers her! That's a miracle! In fact, my daughter who attends therapy sessions is jealous that SHE doesn't get to work with Heidi Jo! Just wanted to let you know that yesterday after your 1st session with my son, it was the first time he has had any relief from the throbbing in his arms for any length of time. He then drove over to his doctors appointment and was sitting in his truck and he said that he could feel his hands start to feel like someone was blowing air into them like they were balloons, then the numbness and then the throbbing come back. Whatever you did yesterday really helped him even if it was short lived for now, I think continued therapy with you will work wonders. He is looking forward to his next appointment with you and so am I. It is hard watching your child be in so much pain and no one (until you) could ever do anything to relieve it. Pain medication that regular doctors hand out doesn't fix the problem. Please let us know when you can set up another appointment for him.
